University of Stuttgart

University of Stuttgart functions as a top research university which operates from one of Europe's most active industrial areas. The university maintains its worldwide scientific and technological excellence through its membership in TU9 which represents Germany's top nine technical universities. The university employs "Stuttgart Way" as its core educational philosophy which requires students to study both engineering and scientific disciplines while also learning about humanities and social sciences. The institution maintains two main locations which include the City Center campus and the suburban Vaihingen campus to create a vibrant space where research activities meet advanced industrial research centers.

The institution started its operations in 1829 when King Wilhelm I of Württemberg established the "Consolidated Real and Trade School" to help people who wanted to work in emerging industrial sectors. The institution progressed through three stages from vocational school to polytechnic secondary school and finally achieved technical university status which allowed it to grant doctoral degrees beginning in 1900. The university restoration process started after World War II destruction because faculty members and students joined together to rebuild the institution which reopened to the public in 1946. The university established itself as the "University of Stuttgart" in 1967 to expand its academic programs beyond technical fields into humanities and social science studies while maintaining its existing strength in engineering.
