City University of Hong Kong

The City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is a prominent higher education institution located in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong. It was founded in 1984 as the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong, one of the three polytechnics established by the Hong Kong Government to provide vocational and technical education. In 1994, CityU became a fully accredited university, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in business, science, engineering, liberal arts and social sciences, law, and veterinary medicine.

CityU has grown rapidly since its inception and is now one of the top 100 universities in the world. The university is known for its innovative research and its commitment to professional education. CityU is also a leader in global education, with partnerships with universities and institutions around the world.

The university currently has nine main schools offering courses in business, science, engineering, liberal arts and social sciences, law, and veterinary medicine, along with the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies, CityU Shenzhen Research Institute, and Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study.

City University of Hong Kong occupies an urban campus located in Kowloon. The official address is Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon Tong, Kowloon. Administratively, it is part of the Sham Shui Po District. Certain buildings of the main campus are marked as located in the Shek Kip Mei neighborhood instead of Kowloon Tong in the address book, such as the Nam Shan Building. The main campus is connected to the Festival Walk shopping center and the Kowloon Tong MTR station, which serves the East Rail line and Kwun Tong line of Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system. It is also adjacent to Shek Kip Mei Park and Nam Shan Estate.

Based on the QS World University Rankings of 2025, City University of Hong Kong is positioned as the #62 top university in the world, which makes it the #5 top university in Hong Kong. The university's global rank is improved by 8 points from last year.
