Airlangga University
Airlangga University is a state university located in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. UNAIR is one of the best and oldest universities in Indonesia
The history of Airlangga University can be traced back to 1913, when the Dutch colonial government established the Nederlandsch-Indische Artsenschool (NIAS), or Javanese Medical School, in Surabaya. NIAS was the first medical school in Indonesia, and it was initially intended to train Javanese students to become doctors.
In 1948, during the Indonesian National Revolution, NIAS was renamed the Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Airlangga (Faculty of Medicine of Airlangga University). At the time, Universitas Airlangga was a distant branch of the University of Indonesia.
In 1954, President Soekarno officially inaugurated Universitas Airlangga as an independent state university. The university had five faculties at the time: Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Economics.
Universitas Airlangga has played a significant role in the development of higher education and research in Indonesia. The university has produced many notable alumni, including former presidents of Indonesia, Suharto and Abdurrahman Wahid. Universitas Airlangga is also a leading research institution in Indonesia, and its researchers have made significant contributions to a variety of fields, including medicine, science, and engineering.
