The history of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS) can be traced back to 1941, when the first four-year health college in the country was founded in Mashhad. In 1949, the college was upgraded to the Faculty of Medicine of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. This was a significant step forward in the development of medical education in the region. In 1986, the Faculty of Medicine was separated from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and became an independent university, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences.
