Founded in 1959 as Melli University, a hub for graduate studies in Architecture and Economics, Shahid Beheshti University saw steady expansion, adding Law, Engineering, Science, and Humanities by 1965. Its student body boomed to over 10,000 by 1979.

Following the Iranian Revolution, it was renamed after assassinated President Mohammad Beheshti, honoring his memory. Today, SBU thrives as a prestigious public research university, offering diverse undergraduate and graduate programs.
