Kobe University, known in Japan as Shindai, is a leading national research university located in the picturesque port city of Kobe which lies between the Rokko Mountains and the Inland Sea. The university operates from four campuses which include Rokkodai, Kusunoki, Myodani, and Fukae through which it provides students from different countries with a chance to study various academic fields. The university operates according to its motto "Integrity, Freedom, and Cooperation" which has earned it recognition as a global educational institution that connects Japan with international intellectual research.
The university roots began in 1902 when the Kobe Higher Commercial School opened as an institution to help Japan modernize while developing its overseas trade relationships. The school became the Kobe University of Commerce in 1929 and the Kobe University of Economics in 1944 during the following years. The university created its current national academic structure when it combined with multiple local colleges in 1949 which included Hyogo Normal School and Kobe Technical College under the new post-war educational reform system. The institution takes pride in its historical foundation which established Japan's first business administration faculty and its economic and commerce programs.
