University of Jordan

The University of Jordan (UJ) is a public university located in Amman, Jordan.

The history of the University of Jordan (UJ) dates back to the early 1950s, when the Jordanian government began to explore the possibility of establishing a national university. In 1956, a committee was formed to study the feasibility of establishing a university, and in 1960, the committee submitted its report to the government. The report recommended the establishment of a university in Amman, and it proposed a curriculum that would focus on the arts, humanities, sciences, and engineering.

In 1962, King Hussein of Jordan issued a royal decree establishing the University of Jordan. The university opened its doors to students in the fall of 1962, with an initial enrollment of approximately 500 students.

The early years of UJ were challenging, as the university struggled to establish itself and attract students. However, the university quickly grew in size and reputation, and by the early 1970s, UJ was the largest university in Jordan.

In the 1970s and 1980s, UJ expanded its academic offerings and established new faculties and departments. The university also began to focus on research, and it established several research centers and institutes.

In the 1990s and 2000s, UJ continued to grow and develop. The university established new academic programs, expanded its research capacity, and improved its facilities and resources.

Today, the University of Jordan is a leading university in the Arab world. It offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields, and it has a strong reputation for academic excellence. UJ is also a major research university, and it is one of the leading research universities in the Arab world.
