University of Balamand

The University of Balamand (UOB) is a private, secular university located in the northern district of El-Koura, Lebanon.

The history of the University of Balamand (UOB) dates back to the early 1980s, when the Patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch and all the East, His Beatitude Patriarch Ignatius IV, envisioned a university that would serve as a beacon of learning, love, and tolerance in the Middle East.

Despite the challenges of the Lebanese Civil War, Patriarch Ignatius IV pressed ahead with his vision, and in 1988, UOB opened its doors to its first students.
