Misurata University

Misurata University is a public university located in Misurata, the third largest city in Libya.

The roots of Misurata University can be traced back to the early 1980s, when the Libyan government under Muammar Gaddafi embarked on a large-scale expansion of higher education. In 1984, the University of the Seventh of October was established in Misurata, initially offering courses in education, agriculture, and engineering. The university quickly grew in size and scope, reflecting the increasing demand for higher education among Libyans.

In the 1990s, the Libyan government continued to invest in higher education, establishing new universities and expanding existing ones. In 1996, the Al-Merqib University was founded in Misurata, offering courses in business, law, and social sciences. Both the University of the Seventh of October and Al-Merqib University played a significant role in providing higher education opportunities to the people of Misurata and surrounding areas.

Following the 2011 Libyan Revolution, the country's higher education system underwent a period of restructuring and reform. In 2010, a decision was made to merge the University of the Seventh of October and Al-Merqib University, creating a single institution named Misurata University. This merger aimed to streamline administrative processes, consolidate resources, and enhance the overall quality of higher education in Misurata.

Today, Misurata University stands as a leading institution of higher learning in Libya, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various disciplines.
