University of Toliara

The University of Toliara (also known as Université de Toliara) is a public university located in Maninday, 5 km east of the city of Toliara, Madagascar.

The university's origins can be traced back to 1960 when the Higher Institute of Letters and Human Sciences of Toliara (French: Institut Supérieur de Lettres et Sciences Humaines de Toliara, ISLSH) was founded. The ISLSH was one of several regional centers that were created to decentralize higher education in Madagascar.

In 1971, the ISLSH was merged with the Regional Center for Applied Sciences (French: Centre Régional des Sciences Appliquées, CRSA) to form the University of Toliara. The university was officially inaugurated on January 19, 1972.

The university has grown steadily since its inception. In 1976, the Faculty of Law, Economics, Management, and Sociology was created. The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1982.

The University of Toliara has played a major role in the development of the city of Toliara. The university has provided jobs for many people in the city and has helped to attract businesses and investment. The university has also contributed to the city's cultural and intellectual life.
