MARA University of Technology

Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) is a public university in Malaysia.

UiTM's story begins in 1956 with the establishment of the RIDA Training Centre (Dewan Latehan RIDA) in Petaling Jaya. Inspired by the vision of Onn Jaafar, the founder of UMNO, this center aimed to equip rural Malays with skills and knowledge for economic advancement. It started small, welcoming only 50 students for vocational training.

A decade later, the center evolved into Maktab MARA, offering diploma programs in business and secretarial studies. Its first convocation in 1964 saw 50 proud graduates receive their certificates from Tun Abdul Razak, the then Deputy Prime Minister.

In 1967, a pivotal moment arrived. Maktab MARA was granted autonomy and transformed into Institut Teknologi MARA (ITM). With a dedicated 300-acre campus in Shah Alam, ITM embarked on an ambitious journey to become a premier institution of higher learning.

The following decades witnessed ITM's rapid growth and diversification. It expanded its academic offerings to encompass engineering, science, education, and the arts. It established campuses across Malaysia, making quality education accessible to more communities.

In 1999, ITM's achievements were recognized with a historic upgrade. It was officially conferred university status, becoming Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). This marked a new chapter in its remarkable journey.

Based on the QS World University Rankings of 2024, MARA University of Technology is positioned as the #555 top university in the world, which makes it the #10 top university in Malaysia.
