B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) is a Nepalese autonomous health sciences university. It is located in the sub-metropolitan city of Dharan in Sunsari District.
The B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) was established on January 18, 1993, as a public limited company under the Companies Act of Nepal. It was named after Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, a former Prime Minister of Nepal who was a strong advocate for social justice and development.
BPKIHS started its academic programs in 1994 with the MBBS program. The Institute has since expanded to offer a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in medicine, dentistry, nursing, and public health.
In 1998, BPKIHS was upgraded to an autonomous health sciences university. This gave the Institute the authority to set its own academic standards and to award its own degrees.
Since its inception, BPKIHS has grown to become one of the leading health sciences universities in Nepal. The Institute has produced thousands of health professionals who are serving in Nepal and around the world. BPKIHS is also a major center for healthcare in Nepal, with its Teaching Hospital providing a wide range of services to patients from all over the country.
BPKIHS has played a significant role in improving the health of the Nepali people. The Institute has been at the forefront of efforts to control communicable diseases, improve maternal and child health, and promote healthy lifestyles.
