University of Ilorin

University of Ilorin, which people commonly call "Unilorin" and "Better by Far" university, serves as a top educational institution that the federal government operates in the historic city of Ilorin, which serves as the capital of Kwara State, Nigeria. The university, which represents the North and South cultural intersection, contains one of Africa's biggest educational land holdings that covers 15,000 hectares. The university has developed a strong academic reputation because it follows its Latin motto Probitas Doctrina which means "Learning and Character," and maintains its academic calendar together with its strict discipline policies. The university maintains its position as one of Nigeria's most preferred educational institutions because it provides an attractive campus environment that draws both local and international students.

The institution established itself as a university in August 1975 when the Federal Military Government issued a decree to create it as one of seven "second-generation" universities that would supply high-level workforce training to support Nigeria's economic development. The institution began its operations as a University College that shared an alliance with the University of Ibadan, which it launched from its initial base at a small chalet operation before transitioning to a "Mini-Campus" space that the state government supplied. The university's academic programs began on October 25, 1976, with a small pilot group of students and three founding academic departments. The institution achieved complete independence in October 1977, and it started moving to its final permanent location during the 1980s. The university has developed into a major educational institution since its start, which it now marks with its 50th anniversary as a research institution.
