University of Lima

University of Lima (Universidad de Lima) is a private nonprofit university in Lima, Peru.
The history of the University of Lima can be traced back to the early 1960s, when a group of university professors and leading representatives of commerce and industry gathered in the Civil Association PRODIES (Promotion of Industrial Development through Higher Education) decided to found a new university.
PRODIES' goal was to create a different university, consistent with the modernization process, in which community spirit between professors and students was encouraged. The founders believed that the existing universities in Peru were too focused on traditional disciplines and did not adequately prepare students for the demands of the modern world.
In 1962, PRODIES obtained authorization from the Peruvian government to found the University of Lima. The university began operating with 120 students in a small campus in the Jesús María District. In 1968, the university moved to its current campus in the Monterrico area of Surco.
The University of Lima quickly grew in size and reputation. It became known for its innovative academic programs, particularly in business, engineering, and architecture. The university also attracted some of the best professors in Peru.
In 1974, the University of Lima became an autonomous institution. This meant that it was no longer subject to government control and could set its own academic standards. The university's autonomy has allowed it to continue to innovate and grow.
The University of Lima is committed to academic excellence, social responsibility, and community engagement. The university has a number of programs and initiatives that promote these values. For example, the university offers scholarships to students from low-income families and provides financial assistance to students who participate in community service projects.
The University of Lima is proud of its history and its commitment to providing students with a high-quality education. The university is confident that it will continue to be a leader in higher education in Peru for many years to come.
