Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu

The Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (Romanian: Universitatea "Lucian Blaga" din Sibiu) is a public university in Sibiu, Romania. It is named after the philosopher, poet, and playwright, Lucian Blaga.

The history of the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu can be traced back to the 14th century, when the first school was opened in the city. However, the real foundation of the university can be attributed to the refuge period of the University “King Ferdinand I” from Cluj to Sibiu during World War II.

In 1967, the Faculty of Philology and History was established in Sibiu as a branch of the University “Babeș-Bolyai” from Cluj. This was followed by the establishment of the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Administrative in 1971. In 1976, the two faculties were merged to form the Institute of Higher Education in Sibiu.

In 1990, after the Romanian Revolution, the Institute of Higher Education in Sibiu was reorganized and renamed the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu. The university was named after the philosopher, poet, and playwright, Lucian Blaga, who was a native of Transylvania.

The Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu has grown significantly since its founding in 1990.
