King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) is a public research university in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) was established in 1963 by King Saud bin Abdulalziz as the College of Petroleum and Minerals (CPM). The CPM was founded in response to the growing need for highly skilled engineers and scientists to support Saudi Arabia's developing oil and gas industry.

The CPM initially offered undergraduate programs in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. In 1975, the CPM was upgraded to university status and renamed the University of Petroleum and Minerals (UPM). The UPM continued to expand its academic offerings, adding new undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of disciplines.

In 1986, the UPM was renamed the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) in honor of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz. Under King Fahd's leadership, KFUPM experienced a period of rapid growth and development. The university expanded its campus facilities, increased its faculty and staff, and launched new academic programs and research initiatives.

Today, KFUPM is one of the most prestigious universities in the Middle East. It has played a significant role in the development of Saudi Arabia. Its graduates have gone on to hold leadership positions in the government, industry, and academia. KFUPM is also a major contributor to Saudi Arabia's research and development efforts.

Based on the QS World University Rankings of 2024, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals is positioned as the #180 top university in the world, which makes it the #2 top university in Saudi Arabia. The university's global rank decreased by 20 points from last year.
