Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) is the biggest and oldest university of technology in Slovakia.

The history of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) dates back to the 18th century, when the Academy of Mining and Forestry was founded in Banská Štiavnica in 1762. This was the first higher education institution in Slovakia, and it laid the foundation for technical education in the country.

In the early 20th century, there was a growing demand for technical education in Slovakia, as the country was industrializing rapidly. In 1919, after the First World War, the Czechoslovak government decided to establish a technical university in Košice. The Technical University of M. R. Štefánik was founded in 1937, and it was the first technical university in Slovakia.

In 1938, after the Munich Agreement, Košice was ceded to Hungary. As a result, the Technical University of M. R. Štefánik was moved to Bratislava. The university was renamed the Slovak Technical University (SVŠT), and it began operations in Bratislava in 1939.

After the Second World War, the SVŠT grew rapidly. New faculties were established, and the number of students increased significantly. In 1991, after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, the SVŠT was renamed the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU).

STU has played an important role in the development of Slovakia. Many of the country's leading engineers and scientists have graduated from STU. STU has also contributed to the development of Slovak industry, through its research and development activities.
