Technical University of Kosice

The Technical University of Košice (TUKE) is a public research university located in Košice, Slovakia.

The Technical University of Košice (TUKE) was founded in 1952, but its origins can be traced back to the 17th century.

In 1657, the Universitas Cassoviensis was established in Košice. This was a comprehensive university that offered a variety of programs, including engineering. However, the university was closed in 1851.

In 1937, the M.R.Štefánik State Technical College was established in Košice. This college offered a variety of engineering programs, but it was forced to close in 1938 due to the Vienna Arbitration.

After World War II, the Czechoslovak government decided to establish a new technical university in Košice. The university was officially founded on July 8, 1952, and it was named the Košice Technical College. The college initially had three faculties: the Faculty of Heavy Engineering, the Faculty of Mining, and the Faculty of Metallurgy.

In 1960, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering was founded. In 1978, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering was split into two faculties: the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Computer Science and Informatics.

In 1991, the Košice Technical College was renamed the Technical University of Košice. In 1992, the Faculty of Economics was founded. In 1998, the Faculty of Arts was founded. In 2005, the Faculty of Aeronautics was founded.
