Dongguk University

Dongguk University is a private university located in Seoul, South Korea. It is a prestigious institution that is also one of the few universities in the world that has a Buddhist affiliation. The campus is located above a scenic park called Namsan Park. Dongguk University was created with the mission to create future global leaders that provide an academic education with a strong sense of morality and integrity. This dedication to developing leaders is evident in the way the community blends modern buildings and development with traditional Buddhist architecture. Dongguk University is a "Glocal" Institution; it combines Eastern philosophy with Western science in order to provide the best education possible to students from around the world.

Dongguk University's roots as an Established Buddhist School begin in 1906 when the original school was called "Myeongjin School". The establishment of the school occurred during a time of significant change in Korea. Since its inception, Dongguk has faced numerous challenges as a result of the Japanese occupation of Korea, including being closed and not allowed to operate under Japanese rule. However, the school showed a remarkable amount of resilience and independence during this tumultuous period. After the Korean War in 1953, Dongguk received its official university status and has undergone a significant amount of growth since that time. Today, there are many campuses of Dongguk, including a medical campus located in Gyeongju and a Biotechnology Campus located in Ilsan. Dongguk has played an important role in the development and democratization of Korea since World War II.
