University of Valencia

University of Valencia which established its existence in 1499 functions as one of Spain's most ancient and esteemed public research institutions. The university operates from multiple main campuses which include Blasco Ibáñez and Tarongers and Burjassot-Paterna in the Mediterranean city of Valencia. The university connects with all the urban areas of the city which includes its historic main building La Nau which operates as both a cultural monument and an educational center that demonstrates the institution's dedication to learning and its historical assets. The institution stands as a top European university which demonstrates outstanding scientific research and contributes significantly to the cultural and social progress of the Valencian Community.

University history traces back to the 13th century when King James I of Aragon received permission from Pope Innocent IV to create "general studies" in Valencia. The municipal magistrates of the city established the academies on October 30 1499 through their creation of official constitutions which established the academies as an educational institution. The university developed from its medieval origins into a successful institution which reached its height during the Enlightenment when it became a famous educational institution for Greek and Latin and mathematics and medicine. The university has built itself into a 21st century global academic center because it underwent frequent modernization efforts which included infrastructure growth and research capacity development after its historic library suffered destruction through a Spanish Civil War fire.
