Universities in Sudan

Sudan, located in North Africa, has a developing higher education system. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is responsible for overseeing the country's universities and research institutions. There are both public and private universities in Sudan, with the majority being public institutions. Sudanese universities offer a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs in fields such as engineering, medicine, law, business, and agriculture. The University of Khartoum, founded in 1902, is the oldest and largest university in the country, while other major universities include the University of Gezira, the Sudan University of Science and Technology, and the International University of Africa. International students can also pursue higher education in Sudan, with around 5,000 international students enrolled in Sudanese universities as of 2021, according to UNESCO. The language of instruction in most universities is Arabic, although there are some programs taught in English.
