Kasetsart University

Kasetsart University (KU) is a public research university in Bangkok, Thailand.

The history of Kasetsart University can be traced back to 1904, when Prince Phichaimahintharodom, the Director of the Department of Sericulture of the Ministry of Agriculture, founded the School of Sericulture in Tambon Thung Saladaeng, Bangkok. The school was established to train students in the production of silk, which was an important export commodity for Thailand at the time.

In 1905, the school was renamed the School of Agriculture and was moved to a new location in the Sapathum Palace. At the same time, a new curriculum, Thailand's first tertiary-level agriculture curriculum, was drawn up and was inaugurated in 1909.

In 1917, the school was renamed the Royal Agricultural College and was granted university status. The college was the first agricultural university in Thailand.

In 1943, the Royal Agricultural College was renamed Kasetsart University. The name "Kasetsart" is derived from the Sanskrit words "kaset" (agriculture) and "sastra" (science).

Kasetsart University has grown rapidly since its founding. In 1943, the university had only one faculty, the Faculty of Agriculture. Today, the university has 19 faculties and colleges, offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields.

Kasetsart University is a prestigious university with a long and distinguished history. It is a leader in education and research in Thailand and the world.

Kasetsart University is ranked as the #5 top university in Thailand during 2025. This is the same rank as last year.
