The American University of Sharjah (AUS) is a private, non-profit university located in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

The American University of Sharjah (AUS) was founded in 1997 by Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed AlQasimi envisioned AUS as a leading educational institution in the Gulf region, combining the best of American and Islamic traditions of higher education.

AUS opened its doors to its first cohort of students in 1997, with 285 students taught by 30 faculty members.

AUS is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in the United States and by the Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates. This means that AUS degrees are recognized and respected by employers around the world.

AUS has a strong commitment to multiculturalism. The university has a diverse faculty and student body from over 90 countries. AUS offers a variety of cultural and social activities for its students, including student clubs and organizations, athletic teams, and cultural events.

AUS is a leading research university in the United Arab Emirates. The university's faculty members are actively engaged in research in a wide range of fields. AUS has a number of research centers and institutes, including the AUS Research Institute, the Sharjah Center for Learning Disabilities, and the Institute for Sustainable Energy.
