Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research

Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (Khalifa University) is a research-intensive, co-educational university located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The history of Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (Khalifa University) can be traced back to 1989, when the Etisalat College of Engineering (ECE) was established in Sharjah, UAE. The ECE was founded by the Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) to train engineers for the telecommunications industry.

In 2000, the Petroleum Institute was established in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The Petroleum Institute was founded by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to train engineers for the oil and gas industry.

In 2007, Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR) was established by Presidential decree. KUSTAR was formed by the merger of the Etisalat College of Engineering and the Petroleum Institute. KUSTAR was also tasked with establishing a new campus in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi.

The Masdar City campus of Khalifa University opened in 2010. The Masdar City campus is a sustainable campus that is powered by renewable energy.

In 2017, Khalifa University merged with Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. The merger created a new, unified Khalifa University that offered a broader range of programs and research opportunities.

Today, Khalifa University is a leading research-intensive university in the UAE and the region.

The university also has a vibrant student life, with a variety of clubs and organizations for students to get involved in.
