Universities in Yemen
Yemen’s government has made the pursuit of academics as her topmost priority, and more than 20% of her population is currently in the higher institutions. There are 7 public universities, 5 private universities and more than 14 religious universities. At the moment, there are over 3500 foreign students - more than 80% of these foreigners are in the private and religious universities. Despite the government’s current involvement in education, they still have a long way to go. The learning resources and equipment are poor, high rate of absenteeism from the professors, poor systematic review of the curricula, shortage of libraries, laboratories and computers for medical and engineering students are factors affecting the growth of intellectual pursuits in Yemen. Unemployment rate for graduates is another big issue.
