Murdoch University

Murdoch University functions as a modern public research university which operates from its Perth location in Western Australia. The university establishes itself through its unique "bush campus" design and its dedication to environmental protection together with social justice initiatives. The university belongs to Innovative Research Universities which promotes academic freedom through its global presence that extends to its campuses in Singapore and Dubai. The establishment of the institution took place on July 25, 1973 when it became Western Australia's second university to provide educational opportunities which would fulfill community needs while combating the elitist systems which prevailed during that time. The university received its name to honor Sir Walter Murdoch who served as an Australian essayist and educator and as the founding Professor of English at the University of Western Australia. The university opened its doors to first undergraduate students in 1975 which chose Sir Walter's birth centenary as its official opening date. The university developed flexible admission processes in the 20th century while it built research capabilities through its Asia Research Centre and Australian National Phenome Centre.
