The University of New South Wales (UNSW), known locally as “New South,” is based in Kensington, NSW. UNSW consists of eight residential colleges, 69 research centers, 76 schools, four teaching hospitals, six institutes and numerous administrative departments.
The university was founded following World War II in response to the need for developing an industrial, modern society. Engineers and technological experts were needed in numbers that could not be met by the University of Sydney. In 1948, classes began in Electrical, Mechanical, Mining and Civil Engineering. Today a full curriculum is available in business, the sciences, and arts as well as technology.
