Graz University of Technology

Graz University of Technology is a public research university located in Styria, Austria.
Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) was founded in 1811 by Archduke John of Austria as the Joanneum. The first subjects taught were physics, chemistry, astronomy, mineralogy, botany, and technology. Friedrich Mohs became the first professor of mineralogy in 1812.
In 1864, the Styrian government made the Joanneum the Joanneum Regional Technical Collage. In 1872, it was renamed the Graz Technical Academy. In 1887, it was granted the right to award doctoral degrees, and in 1901, it was upgraded to a Technical University.
In the early 20th century, TU Graz experienced rapid growth. New buildings were constructed, and new programs were added. The university also began to conduct more research.
During World War II, TU Graz was severely damaged by bombing. After the war, the university was rebuilt and expanded. In the 1960s and 1970s, TU Graz experienced another period of rapid growth. New campuses were built, and new programs were added.
Today, TU Graz is one of the leading technical universities in Austria. TU Graz is also a leading research university in Austria, with strong research ties with industry and international partners.
