Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) is a public agricultural university in Bangladesh.
The story of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) starts not with its grand inauguration in 1998, but over a decade earlier with the Bangladesh College of Agricultural Science (BCAS). Established in 1983, BCAS served as the academic arm of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), focusing on postgraduate studies in agriculture.
In 1991, BCAS shed its affiliation with BARI and transformed into the Institute of Post Graduate Studies in Agriculture (IPSA). IPSA marked a significant leap, gaining autonomy and offering independent Master's and Ph.D. programs. Its success paved the way for the next momentous chapter.
Recognizing IPSA's potential, the Bangladesh government, in 1998, officially established BSMRAU. Named after the revered founding father of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the university inherited IPSA's legacy and embarked on a new journey of growth. From its humble beginnings as BCAS, BSMRAU has blossomed into a premier agricultural university in Bangladesh. Today, it stands tall on 187 acres of land in Salna, Gazipur, a testament to its dedication to agricultural education and research.
