In 2013, a landmark act of Parliament gave birth to Bangladesh's first ever maritime university – the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU). Recognizing the need to keep pace with the evolving world of maritime education and research, BSMRMU embarked on its journey as the 37th public university of the country, simultaneously claiming the title of the 3rd maritime university in South Asia and the 12th globally. Born amidst high hopes, BSMRMU established its home in Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj District, strategically located within the Dhaka Division.
