Bangladesh University of Textiles

The Bangladesh University of Textiles, commonly referred to as BUTEX, is a public university in Bangladesh situated in Tejgaon, Dhaka.

The story of BUTEX starts in 1921, during the British colonial era, with the humble establishment of the "British Weaving School" in Narinda, Dhaka. Its purpose was to provide specialized technical education in the field of textiles, offering artisan-level courses. Over the years, the institution evolved, changing its name and expanding its scope.

In 1935, it became the "East Bengal Textile Institute," and in 1950, it was renamed the "East Pakistan Textile Institute." After Bangladesh's independence in 1971, it was known as the "Bangladesh Textile Institute." A significant milestone arrived in 1978 when the institute introduced a four-year bachelor's degree program in Textile Technology, affiliated with the University of Dhaka. This marked a shift towards higher education and paved the way for further advancements.

The year 2010 saw another major transformation with the establishment of the Bangladesh University of Textiles. This marked the culmination of the institution's remarkable journey, recognizing its significant contributions to the field of textile education and research.
