Barisal University

Barisal University is a public university located in southern Bangladesh.

Nestled in the southern heart of Bangladesh, Barisal University stands as a beacon of knowledge and progress. Its journey, however, hasn't been a straight path, but rather a story of unwavering determination and the collective will of a region yearning for intellectual empowerment.

The seeds of Barisal University were sown in 1960, even before Bangladesh's independence. Back then, a fervent call for a university echoed through the streets, a testament to the region's deep-seated thirst for education. In 1973, the dream received a powerful boost when the visionary leader, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, declared his intention to establish a university in Barisal. However, translating vision into reality proved challenging. The following decades saw numerous political shifts, and the university project remained unfulfilled, facing several half-hearted attempts and unfruitful endeavors. Yet, the yearning for an intellectual hub in the region persisted.

Finally, in 2009, the tide turned. The Ministry of Education, along with the University Grants Commission, reignited the dormant dream. The Barisal University Act was amended and passed in 2010, paving the way for a brighter future. On October 26, 2011, Barisal University was officially inaugurated, marking a momentous occasion for the entire region. 

Barisal University's story is one of resilience, hope, and unwavering pursuit of knowledge. It stands as a symbol of the transformative power of education and a testament to the unwavering spirit of a region determined to carve its own path towards progress.
