Central Women's University

Central Women's University (CWU) is a private university in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Central Women's University (CWU) was established in 1993, making it one of the first private universities in Bangladesh and the first dedicated solely to women's education. The university's establishment came shortly after the passing of the Private University Act of 1992, which opened the door for private institutions to contribute to higher education in Bangladesh. Professor Beggzadi Mahmuda Nasir played a pivotal role in founding CWU and served as its first Vice-Chancellor until 1999.

During its early years, CWU focused on offering undergraduate programs in a limited number of disciplines, such as English, sociology, and business administration. Since the year 2000, CWU has witnessed significant growth and expansion. CWU has also established research centers and institutes to promote scholarly activities and contribute to knowledge creation. 

The university's commitment to providing quality education has been recognized through national and international accreditations. Today, CWU is a leading university for women in Bangladesh, attracting students from across the country and beyond. CWU is committed to its mission of empowering women through education and is constantly striving to improve its academic offerings and facilities. The university plans to expand its campus, introduce new academic programs, and strengthen its research initiatives. CWU aspires to become a leading center for women's education and research, not only in Bangladesh but also in the wider region.
