Islamic University of Technology

Islamic University of Technology, also known as IUT, is an international engineering and technological research university located in Gazipur, Bangladesh.

IUT's story began in 1978 as the Islamic Center for Technical, Vocational Training and Research (ICTVTR), a brainchild of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Its mission: to nurture the scientific and technological talent of OIC member states. The founding stone was laid by President Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh, with the likes of PLO chairman Yasir Arafat and OIC Secretary General Habib Chatty gracing the ceremony.

By 1988, ICTVTR blossomed into a full-fledged institution, formally inaugurated by then-president H.M. Ershad. It continued to evolve, shedding its earlier name for the Islamic Institute of Technology (IIT) in 1994. Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia officially launched this new chapter in 1995.

However, IUT's current name truly took root in 2001, a testament to its growing stature and dedication to engineering and technology. Today, IUT stands tall as a premier university, its campus a flourishing haven for knowledge and innovation in Gazipur.
