Khulna University is a public university located in Khulna, Bangladesh.

The story of Khulna University unfolds amidst the dynamic backdrop of Bangladesh's educational landscape. Its roots trace back to the 1970s, a time when the need for a higher education institution in the Khulna division resonated throughout the region.

The 1974 Kudrat-e-Khuda Commission report highlighted the crucial role of establishing a university in Khulna to cater to the educational needs of the southwestern region.
Five years later, in November 1979, the Cabinet of Ministers initially envisioned a technical university for the area. However, the local populace passionately advocated for a general university, emphasizing the need for broader academic opportunities.

The unwavering demand for a comprehensive university in Khulna finally bore fruit in 1991. Khulna University officially opened its doors on August 31st, marking a momentous occasion for the region's educational aspirations. The nascent university began with a modest intake of 80 students enrolled in four disciplines. Despite its humble beginnings, Khulna University embarked on a journey of remarkable growth and development.
