Southern University of Bangladesh

Southern University Bangladesh is a private university in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

The story of Southern University Bangladesh begins in 1998, not with a university, but with an institute. The Institute of Management and Information Technology (IMIT) was established to answer the burgeoning need for business graduates equipped with computer knowledge. A joint venture with USA and UK universities, IMIT offered bachelor's and master's programs in various disciplines.

By 2000, IMIT's wings had grown strong enough to become affiliated with other established universities. This collaboration gave students access to diverse knowledge pools and expanded academic opportunities. Yet, the vision of Professor Sarwar Jahan and Professor Dr. Ishrat Jahan stretched further.

In 2001, the AJ Foundation was formed, laying the groundwork for something grander. Finally, in 2002, with approval from the Ministry of Education, IMIT transformed into Southern University Bangladesh. Its doors opened wide in January 2003, welcoming students to a new chapter in education.

However, Southern University's journey hasn't been without its challenges. While recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), some past controversies have cast a shadow on its progress. Despite this, the university continues to stand tall, offering high-quality education across a range of faculties, attracting students from both Bangladesh and beyond.
