Catholic University of Leuven is known in Dutch as Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and is also referred to as KU Leuven. Its located in Leuven, Vlaams-Brabant, Belgium. With over 41,000 students, the college offers courses in areas that include Human Sciences, Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, American Studies, Business, Religion, Law and Theology.

KU Leuven traces its origins to the Old University of Leuven, and the college of those years was modeled after colleges in Vienna, Cologne and Paris. When Belgium won independence from the Netherlands in the 1830's, bishops in Belgium formed a new Catholic University at Mechelen, which would later have its name changed to the one we know today.
