Alpha University College

Alpha University College, located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was established in 1981 with the aim of providing vocational and technical training to individuals unable to attend regular classes. Initially recognized by the Ministry of Education as the Institution of National Vocational and Technical Distance Education Enterprise, it offered programs in areas such as auto mechanics, general mechanics, woodwork, electricity, home economics, agriculture, personnel management, purchasing, and production management.

In 1994, the institution evolved into Alpha Education and Training Share Company (AETSCO), founded by Ethiopian businesspeople and professionals dedicated to expanding educational services in the country. AETSCO began offering accredited distance higher education programs leading to certificates, diplomas, and degrees in fields including economics, accounting, business management, information technology, and public administration. Today, AUC provides both distance and regular (day and extension) programs. Distance degree offerings include accounting and finance, marketing management, business management, public administration and development management, procurement and supplies management, management, economics, educational planning and management, rural development management, social work, and urban development management. Regular degree programs are available in accounting and finance, and business management. The duration of these programs varies, with distance programs typically taking four academic years and regular day programs three years.
