Dire Dawa University is a public university which is located in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia which was established in 2006.

The university started with 754 students, which was split into three major faculties: Natural Science and Mathematics, Social Science and Language, and Business and Economics. The university initially set out to offer quality education for its students with thirteen undergraduate programs, aided by 90 teachers and 103 administrative staff. In 2008 the university steadily developed after it went to an incorporation with the west brown campus of Haramaya University. These improvements made room for more construction, workshops, and improved infrastructure that the university could use toward enrolling even more students. The wider campus provided room for widening the academic environment, thereby allowing the university to broaden its academic offerings. Consequently, the university's influence and capacity to educate students from the region expanded tremendously. The university thus kept on changing and restructuring itself in response to an economic priority of the country. In other words, the establishment of the Institute of Technology in 2017 has focused on an industrial-led economic transition. This step reflects the commitment of the university in providing the relevant education to complement the economic needs of the regions and the country at large. This program is to provide the appropriate skills and knowledge to its students that contribute to the industrial development and economic growth of Ethiopia. Today in Dire Dawa University, we have one such leading university.
