École Polytechnique is often called Polytechnique, or School of Technology. In France, it uses the acronym of a single letter, X. It is located near Paris, France, in Palaiseau Essonne. It has over 2700 students who learn in the field of engineering.
Ecole Polytechnique was founded in 1794, during the time of the French Revolution. During World War I, the university was used as a hospital and the students were mobilized for active duty. Two hundred students lost their lives during the war. Women were first admitted to the school in 1972.
