Université Paris Cité

Université Paris Cité stands as a premier public research institution situated within central Paris in France. The French government designated the university as a "Label of Excellence" institution which demonstrates its ability to merge academic tradition with contemporary scientific research. The university operates its main campus from 6th arrondissement historical building while its educational facilities and operation territories extend throughout the various urban areas of the city. The center serves as an interdisciplinary research space which studies the interconnectedness of human sciences and health fields and natural science disciplines to solve the complicated challenges of contemporary society.

The institution was officially created in 2019 through the merger of the University of Paris Descartes (Paris V), the University of Paris Diderot (Paris VII), and the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP). The present administrative body functions as a modern organization but its origins trace back to the establishment of University of Paris which began in the 12th century. The original university structure divided into thirteen independent schools after the events of May 1968 but Université Paris Cité established itself as the main educational center that would join these independent schools into one top-tier educational institution. The institution acquired its present name through a legal decision in 2022 which established its position as the direct successor of the traditional Parisian academic heritage.

Based on the QS World University Rankings of 2026, Université Paris Cité is positioned as the #300 top university in the world, which makes it the #7 top university in France. The university's global rank is improved by 2 points from last year.
