Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) is a public research university located in Berlin, Germany.
The Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) has a long and distinguished history, dating back to the late 18th century. The university's predecessor institutions include the Royal Mining Academy of Berlin, founded in 1770, the Royal Building Academy of Berlin, founded in 1799, and the Royal Trade Academy of Berlin, founded in 1821.
In 1879, the Royal Mining Academy, the Royal Building Academy, and the Royal Trade Academy were merged to form the Königlich Technische Hochschule zu Berlin (Royal Technical Academy of Berlin). The new university was one of the first technical universities in Germany, and it quickly became one of the leading institutions of its kind in the world.
In the early 20th century, TU Berlin was a major center of scientific and technological innovation. The university's faculty and students made groundbreaking contributions to fields such as physics, chemistry, engineering, and mathematics. TU Berlin was also home to a number of leading scientists and engineers, including Albert Einstein, Max Planck, and Werner Heisenberg.
During World War II, TU Berlin was severely damaged by Allied bombing raids. However, the university quickly rebuilt after the war, and it continued to play a leading role in German science and technology.
In 1946, the university was renamed the Technical University of Berlin. In the postwar years, TU Berlin expanded its curriculum to include new fields such as computer science, electrical engineering, and environmental science. The university also established a number of new research institutes, such as the Einstein Center for Mathematics and the Center for Technology and Society.
