Technical University of Munich

The Technical University of Munich (Technische Universität München), or TUM, was founded in 1868 by King Ludwig II, and in 1901 earned the right to award doctoral degrees. Today, the academic faculties occupy three separate campuses in greater Munich.

In central Munich, the main campus is home to the faculties of Medicine, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Social and Sports Sciences, Surveying, and Economics. The Garching campus, north of Munich, contains the faculties of Informatics, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Mechanical Engineering.

Based on the QS World University Ranking of 2023, Technical University of Munich is positioned as the #49 top university in the world, which makes it the #1 top university in Germany. The university's global rank is improved by 1 point from last year.
