Federal University of Technology, Owerri

Federal University of Technology, Owerri, is a public university situated in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria.

Established in 1980, this university is a product of the Nigerian government's desire to provide specialized technical education in the southeast of the country. It is one of three universities of technology, well-situated in three different geopolitical zones of Nigeria, thus ensuring the equitable distribution of educational advancement in the country. This initiative represented a bigger effort toward technological advancement and human resource development. It began with its first set of students and teachers on the old Government Technical College premises in Owerri. In 1982, the Imo State government allocated a permanent site for the university, which was sufficient space for the growth and development of the university.
