Misamis University

Misamis University is a private, non-sectarian, non-profit educational institution located in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental, Philippines.
Misamis University was established in 1929 by Dr. Hilarion Feliciano and Doña Maria Mercado Feliciano in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental, Philippines. Initially starting as a small elementary school, it expanded its offerings over time to include secondary, tertiary, and graduate education, reflecting the founders' vision for comprehensive education in the region. In its early years, from 1929 to 1945, the university’s roots were firmly planted when Dr. Feliciano and his wife established the elementary school. As demand grew, the school gradually added secondary education levels, allowing it to serve a broader student population. However, the onset of World War II disrupted operations, yet the institution demonstrated resilience by surviving the conflict and resuming its educational mission afterward.
The post-war period from 1945 to 1970 was marked by significant rebuilding efforts. Misamis University faced the challenge of restoring its infrastructure and curriculum in the aftermath of the war. During this time, it continued to grow by offering a wider range of undergraduate programs. A pivotal moment in this era was the establishment of the College of Education, which became a cornerstone of the university’s academic offerings and helped shape future educators. From 1970 to the present, the university achieved autonomous status in 1975, granting it greater independence and flexibility in its operations. This newfound autonomy enabled the institution to expand its academic programs significantly, introducing degrees in diverse fields such as business, engineering, nursing, and agriculture. Additionally, graduate programs were introduced to cater to students seeking advanced education, further enhancing the university's academic landscape. Misamis University has actively pursued internationalization efforts, fostering partnerships with foreign universities and institutions to enrich the educational experience.
Among its key achievements and recognitions, the university has attained ISO 9001:2015 certification, underscoring its commitment to quality management. With a large number of accredited programs, it reflects a dedication to academic excellence that is widely recognized. Furthermore, it has been designated as a Center of Development in Teacher Education by the Commission on Higher Education, solidifying its role in shaping future educators. As one of the few autonomous universities in the region, it enjoys a unique position in the higher education landscape. Today, Misamis University continues to be a leading educational institution in Northwestern Mindanao. It contributes significantly to the development of the region and the nation through its unwavering commitment to quality education and research, empowering students to make meaningful contributions to society.
