Visayas State University Main Campus
Visayas State University (VSU) Main Campus is located in Barangay Pangasugan, Baybay City, Leyte, Philippines. It is situated about 8 kilometers north of the city center and 34 kilometers south of Ormoc City. The campus has a total land area of 1,099.4 hectares, making it one of the largest university campuses in the country.
The Visayas State University (VSU) Main Campus was established on June 2, 1924 as the Baybay Agricultural School (BAS) through a Provincial Board Resolution. The school was established to provide agricultural education to the people of Leyte and the Visayas region.
In 1934, the school was renamed Baybay Agricultural High School (BAHS). In 1938, it was converted into the Baybay National Agricultural School (BNAS) with the approval of Commonwealth Act No. 313.
On June 19, 1960, BNAS was renamed Visayas Agricultural College (VAC) by virtue of Republic Act (RA) No. 2684. The college was granted university status on June 19, 1971 through RA No. 6070.
In 1999, four institutions of higher education in the province of Leyte were integrated into VSU to create a five-campus system. VSU became Leyte State University (LSU) through RA No. 9158 issued on August 11, 2001. LSU became Visayas State University (VSU) on April 27, 2007 by virtue of RA No. 9413.
The VSU Main Campus is a beautiful and vibrant place to learn and live. It is surrounded by lush greenery and rolling hills, and it is home to a variety of wildlife. The campus has a number of amenities for students and faculty, including dormitories, libraries, computer laboratories, sports facilities, and a student center.
