Sogang University

Sogang University stands as an esteemed private research institution which occupies a site in the Mapo District of Seoul South Korea. The university ranks among the best institutions in the country because it maintains high academic requirements together with its distinct presence in the "Sinchon university district." The campus occupies a space at Nogo Mountain's base which creates a peaceful and comfortable environment that exists within a busy city area. The university was established on April 18, 1960, by the Wisconsin Province of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), following a request from the Catholic Hierarchy of Korea and an assurance from Pope Pius XII. The institution became the first Jesuit higher education institution in South Korea when it started as Sogang College before reaching university status in 1970. The institution emerged as a key driver behind South Korea's modernization process during the late 20th century because its professors developed the economic growth framework which became known as the Sogang School. The university has developed from a small liberal arts college to a world research university which now partners with educational institutions across the globe while hosting many international visitors.
