University of Juba is a public university in Juba, South Sudan. The university was founded in 1975, a time when Southern Sudan lacked higher education institutions. It began with five colleges: Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, Education, Social and Economic Studies, Adult Education, and Health Sciences. The university aimed to provide higher education opportunities to Southern Sudanese, contributing to the region's development and addressing its specific needs. The establishment of the university was seen as a critical step toward enhancing the educational landscape of Southern Sudan, providing a foundation for future generations.
However, the outbreak of the Second Sudanese Civil War in 1983 forced the university to relocate to Khartoum, disrupting its operations and displacing students and faculty.
