Lviv Polytechnic National University

Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukrainian: Націона́льний університе́т «Льві́вська політе́хніка») is the largest scientific university in Lviv, Ukraine.

he history of Lviv Polytechnic National University dates back to 1816, when the Imperial-Royal Real School was opened in Lviv (then Lemberg), which was part of the Austrian Empire. In 1841, a technical faculty was added to the school, and in 1844, the Imperial-Royal Technical Academy was established. The academy was one of the first technical universities in Europe and the first in Ukraine.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Lviv Polytechnic became a leading center of scientific and technological development in Central Europe. The university's graduates played a key role in the industrialization of Ukraine and other parts of the region.

During the First World War, Lviv was occupied by Russian forces, and the university was closed. However, it reopened in 1918, after Ukraine gained its independence. During the Second World War, Lviv was occupied by both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. The university was closed again during the Nazi occupation, but it reopened in 1944, after the Red Army liberated the city.

After the war, Lviv Polytechnic continued to grow and develop. In 1991, Ukraine gained its independence from the Soviet Union, and Lviv Polytechnic was renamed Lviv Polytechnic National University.
