Sana'a University

Sana'a University (SU), also spelled Sanaa University, is the oldest and largest public university in Yemen. It is located in the capital city of Sana'a.
Sana'a University was established in 1970 as the first and the primary university in the Yemen Arab Republic (North Yemen), now the Republic of Yemen (see also Aden University). It is located in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, and is currently organized with 17 faculties.
When Sana'a university was first established, it had two faculties: the Faculty of Sharia and Law and the Faculty of Education, which also included the specialties of Colleges of Arts, Sciences and Education. In 1974, those specialties were developed and formed three new faculties: Arts, Science, Education.
In the early years, Sana'a University faced many challenges, including a lack of funding, qualified faculty, and facilities. However, the university grew rapidly and by the late 1970s, it had over 10,000 students enrolled.
In the 1990s, Yemen experienced political instability and economic hardship. Sana'a University was not immune to these challenges and faced budget cuts and staff shortages. However, the university continued to operate and provide education to students.
In the 2000s, Sana'a University began to recover from the challenges of the 1990s. The university received increased funding from the government and was able to improve its facilities and programs.
Today, Sana'a University is the largest and most prestigious university in Yemen. It is a major center for learning and research and plays a vital role in the country's development.
